The Wizard

"Thank you," I whispered, bowing my head;
Lying there, frozen, consumed by dread.
A terrified grin of excitement and fear
Was all the consent you needed to hear.

A delicate necklace, you held in your hand -
Its cost was more than I could ever have planned.
The tiny black gemstone it held was divine
But devoid of its power. The magic was mine.

Used up long ago, in a land far away,
You brought me this gift and asked me to stay.
So, like a good girl, I did as I was told;
Sat through lonely nights awake and so cold.

You said you'd come back, but time is relentless;
A vampire draining all hope and defenses.
I finally cracked - couldn't last one more night -
So I gave you the signal. I gave you my light.

I stripped off my body, buried my fears,
Released all my sorrows, my anger and tears.
Got under the covers, made peace with myself;
You took what was left, put me on your shelf.

Another pretty doll for your little collection;
I mistook your greed for a sincere connection.
"Let it all go," you said with a smile.
Of course I complied - it had been awhile.

Your arm reached around me, powerful and strong,
But all I could hear was that beautiful song.
Hauntingly chilling in a seductive, sick way -
"My kind of music," is what I would say.

Back to the bedroom, my mind disappears;
Your hot, humid breath whispering in my ears,
The cold metal chain sends chills down my spine,
Your gift was a collar; you told me "You're mine."

A light filled my mind, flickering quick,
Burning through me like a flame up a wick.
That four letter word was all that it took,
Like the last word written in an unending book.

I felt your cold hands manipulate the clasp,
Leaving me breathless within your strong grasp.
The click of the metal left me broken, stunned;
Not too much different than cocking a gun.

As ancient, dark flames consumed me inside;
I watched as you looked down, smiling with pride.
"Good girl," was the trigger, signaling the end.
One last kiss goodbye to your departing friend.

It didn't hurt, though, as you laid me to rest -
Brushed your hand past my cheek, kissing my chest.
The fire you started consumed me that night;
Sometimes two wrongs do make something right.
