The Demon

From the abyss, a voice escaped;
Whispering in my ears.
It grew a tail, some horns and wings;
I fed it my hope and fears.

We shared our secrets, sang and danced,
Walking alone, side by side.
No one else could understand;
They thought that I had lied.

I painted them a picture of
The world seen through my eyes.
I listened to their stupid doubts,
And kissed that voice goodbye.

Then darkness fell and washed away
My world with painful tears.
My shadow, though, kept listening;
Following me through the years.

I spent each night alone and cold,
Until one day at last;
I'd had enough of loneliness
And traveled to the past.

There, I found that little voice
Had grown so big and strong.
It told me to ignore the world.
It showed me - they were wrong.
